The CEU Higher Education Research Group (HERG) cordially invites you to a discussion based on a presentation by Jacques Fremont, director of the International Higher Education Support Program (HESP) at Open Society Foundations.

Higher education institutions and actors are instrumental in the establishment and consolidation of open societies committed to inclusion, critical thinking, human rights, justice, and democracy. The International Higher Education Support Program of the Open Societies Foundations is committed to supporting universities and members of their communities by nurturing their capacity and leadership for well-informed, vigorous, and inclusive social deliberation.  The aim of the presentation is to provide a closer look at HESP’s current and future programs in the context of global open society challenges as well as dynamic developments in higher education landscape.

Dr. Jacques Fremont, Director of HESP since 2011. Formerly, served as the Provost and Vice-Rector - Academic Affairs as well as Vice-Rector – International and Graduate Studies at the University of Montreal.   Dr. Fremont has also been involved for many years in international cooperation projects in legal and judicial matters, especially in Asia and in Africa; he was regularly called to act as expert in human rights, governance and democracy matters by numerous international development organizations. Dr. Fremont holds a law degree from Laval University in Quebec City. He then pursued graduate studies both at Osgoode Hall Law School (York University, Toronto) and at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
