The presentation seeks to set out and analyse those forces which are impacting upon higher education in an increasingly globalised world, including HE’s role as a driver in national and international knowledge economies, and how market forces and competition impact on institutions. Consideration is also given to the macro challenge of HE funding – striking the correct balance between use of public and private resources, so that quality can be maintained and improved and participation increased, in a financially sustainable way.
